Terrified Demons

We are here to talk about demons; not if they exist, for accounts of them are scattered throughout the New Testament.
But we are here to examine how terrified demons are, when they see Jesus. I want to put a spotlight their feelings of terror.

Matthew 8: “28 When he (Jesus) arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 29 “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” “

This bit of scripture speaks of: the deity of Jesus, the existence of demons, and “…the appointed time?”
There is coming a time when the demons are expecting to be tormented, which Jesus has control over.

Now, 2 Peter 2:4:
"…But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. 4For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, a putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment; … “

This tells us, there were angels that sinned against God, and they are doomed to Judgment. The final judgment has not yet happened, but is on its way.
This is what the demons were talking about when they spoke of being tortured. Can you see the dread they are feeling?

Mark 1, Jesus and his disciples go to a religious service:
“21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!” 25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” 26 The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek.”

Demons know Jesus as the Son of God, and feel tormented in his presence, because he will order His Holy angels to cast the demons into the eternal abyss, because they ignored the will of God when they were in His presence, in heaven. Yes, demons are fallen angels.

Matthew 25: 41, Jesus speaking on the Judgment Day:
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”

Again, my goal for this article is for living humans gain some sense of the terror that demons feel.
Angels, either holy or fallen, know better than living humans what God, and heaven and hell are truly like.

Consider Luke 19:
19Now there was a rich man dressed in purple and fine linen, who lived each day in joyous splendor. 20And a beggar named Lazarus lay at his gate, covered with sores 21and longing to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. 22One day the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. And the rich man also died and was buried. 23In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from afar, with Lazarus by his side. 24So he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. For I am in agony in this fire.’ 25But Abraham answered, ‘Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things. But now he is comforted here, while you are in agony. 26And besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that even those who wish cannot cross from here to you, nor can anyone cross from there to us.’ 27‘Then I beg you, father,’ he said, ‘send Lazarus to my father’s house, 28for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also end up in this place of torment.’ 29But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let your brothers listen to them.’ 30‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone is sent to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 31Then Abraham said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”

The dead know more about God than the living. Another bit of scripture,
Revelation, 20:11 “11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”

My goal is to have everyone feel a sense of terror for anyone who is sent to the Lake of Fire, for it is forever. I don’t believe in purgatory.
The New Testament doesn’t talk about it, and it is our current contract with God. And you have just read some of what the New Testament says about demons and hell.

God creates hell for Lucifer and his demons? I can't answer that. .
When you read the words of demons speaking to Jesus, can't you see some of them trying to repent?
But that is not an option for demons, or for humans once they are dead. It's over.
But here is another verse to consider:

1 John 3:
"1See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, a we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. 3All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure."

When we see Him, we will become like him.
The fallen angels saw God face-to-face, yet refused to honor him. They refused to be pure. They rebelled against God.
This is why they are without  hope and eternally doomed; this is the reason for their terrrible fate.
And humans that imitate demons' rebellion against God? They share the fate of demons. I have to rest in that.

Consider the terror that fallen angels feel, and make sure you are right with God. Here is another article for that:
